Hooper residents, Ronald and Kathleen Knowlden Smith, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on March 29.
High school seniors, the couple met on Valentine’s Day in 1962 in Myrtle Beach, S.C. They were married by First Counselor Blaine Campbell on March 29, 1963, at Sheppard Air Force Base chapel in Wichita Falls, Texas. Their vows were solemnized in 1966 in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Salt Lake Temple.
They are the parents of eight children: Ron and Ann Smith, Chandler, Ariz.; Sherrie and Nigel Los, Gulf Breeze, Fla.; Michael and Amber Smith, Syracuse; Carrie and Court Hale, Layton; Matthew Smith, Layton; Marc and Jaime Smith, Layton; Aimee Smith, North Salt Lake; and Tiffany and Dustin Izatt, Layton. They have 21 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1986 after 23 years and stays busy with his woodworking hobby.
The couple is enjoying their retirement years, spending time with their family and traveling.
