OREM -- Officials say four horses and several goats were killed when a fire broke out on a farm outside of Orem.
Utah County Fire Marshal Dennis Barker says firefighters were called out around midnight and stayed at the scene until about 5:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Barker says the farm tenants had started a fire in a burn barrel on Monday, and the embers from the barrel escaped and sparked the blaze later in the day.
Officials say the fire burned a group of makeshift animal stalls and killed some of the livestock, although Barker says some horses, goats, and roosters survived.
Barker says the burn was illegal, but says the tenants likely won't be cited because that would add "insult to injury."
The loss is estimated at up to $20,000.
