WEST VALLEY CITY — The U.S. Attorney’s Office is dropping eight drug cases from a Utah police department that’s already had 19 other cases dismissed for lack of credible evidence.
The FBI is investigating allegations of corruption within the department’s drug unit and allegations of a cover-up involving the officer-involved shooting death of an unarmed woman last year.
U.S. Attorney’s Office spokeswoman Melodie Rydalch says the office is aware of allegations surrounding the West Valley City Police Department and declined to comment further citing an ongoing investigation.
The Salt Lake County District Attorney dropped 19 West Valley City cases linked to a single officer last month and expects more cases to be dismissed.
A West Valley City Police spokeswoman declined to comment Wednesday.
