The Weber County Sheriff's Office is reporting a "dramatic" increase in vehicle and garage burglaries in the West Haven and Hooper areas in the last 30 days.
"Thieves are targeting unlocked garages and vehicles," states a press release from the Weber County Sheriff's Office. "At least one vehicle has also been stolen as well as one firearm, among other items."
Lt. Mark Lowther with the sheriff's office said he thinks the crimes are related.
"They are in the same area," he said. "They are using the same method of doing (the burglaries). It's highly probable it's the same individuals."
Lowther said police don't have any leads as of Wednesday afternoon.
He said officers hope area residents will take special notice of suspicious vehicles or suspicious activities in their neighborhoods.
"Please report any suspicious vehicles or persons by calling 911," states the release.
Lowther said he hopes people will take precautions against the crimes.
"If people can take a few extra minutes and lock their garages and vehicles, they can save themselves a lot of heartache," Lowther said.
The release urges all residents of Weber County, wherever they live, to lock up their vehicles and garages.
Lowther said crime sprees like this sometimes come in cycles.
"We go through periods of where we get hit a lot," he said.
Anyone with information concerning the burglaries is encouraged to call the Weber County Sheriff's Office Investigations division at 801-778-6631.
