OGDEN -- The Weber State University Spirit Squad recently won another championship title at the 2013 USA Collegiate Cheer and Dance National Championship last week in Anaheim, Calif.

The two-day event was held in late March at the Anaheim Convention Center and included more than 70 schools in various divisions.

The Weber State Cheer Squad won first place in the large co-ed four-year college division. WSU defeated several teams in the finals including Hawaii, Western University, Portland State, Colorado, New Mexico State, and Texas A&M.

This was the second-straight title for the Wildcats who also placed first in the 2012 championship.

Also competing in the partner stunt division were cheer squad members Paul Thorpe and Cassie Jo Taylor, who finished second overall. Tyrel Gailey and Tasha Petroff finished fourth and Riley Palmer and Victoria Van Orden were sixth.

The Weber State dancers placed fifth in the open dance four-year college division. This competitive division had 14 schools, including the University of Utah, as well as Idaho State and Northern Arizona from the Big Sky Conference.

Summer Willis is the spirit squad program director and cheer coach.

The dancers are coached by Ashley Hardison.
