FARMINGTON -- City Manager Dave Millheim admits it doesn't look like your typical well house.
A well house, designed to fit into the historic fabric of downtown, is almost complete and the well inside the facility is being tested, in hopes of being put into operation in the near future.
The small building, located adjacent to the community center and just north of City Hall, was projected to bring construction costs for the new well over $1.3 million.
Millheim said he doesn't know what the final price for the project will be, but he admits it is high.
"We care about downtown, so we did that," Millheim said of historical structure.
The well house is located on the site of the old Mary Myers home on Main Street. The structure was torn down as part of the well project.
The city's water system currently employs three wells and the addition of another well is expected to accommodate some of the city's potential growth on the west side, plus provide for commercial growth at Station Park.
