KAYSVILLE -- A 54-year-old man is accused of holding his girlfriend against her will at their home, police said.
Vernon Officer, of Kaysville, was booked in Davis County Jail on Sunday on one count of aggravated kidnapping, assault, interference with an arresting officer, damage to a communication device and disorderly conduct. He is being held in lieu of $200,000 bail.
Kaysville Police Capt. Brent Ward said a woman called police from a church parking lot at 2 p.m. Sunday saying Officer had assaulted her and held her against her will.
When police arrived, she told them Officer had quit taking some medication and "became hostile," Ward said.
The woman had locked herself in her bedroom, but Officer went in and grabbed her by the neck and shoulders and threw her on the ground. He also broke her cellphone so she couldn't call police. She managed to leave the home, and once she was in the church parking lot, asked someone to call 911.
When the police arrived at Officer's home, he became verbally hostile, Ward said.
"They tried pepper spray, but Officer refused to comply," Ward said. "They had to physically subdue him."
