CLEARFIELD -- Two Clearfield High School seniors, Makenna M. Hill and Yajaira K. Peralta, have received $5,000 Horatio Alger Utah Scholarships made possible with support from the Rocky Mountain Power Foundation.
The two were among17 students selected statewide based on their dedication to community service and strength of character in overcoming personal obstacles to achieve academic excellence.
“It is a privilege to play a part in these young people’s college education,” said Tony Novelly, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Horatio Alger Association. “They have already shown perseverance and courage in the face of adversity, and with opportunities made available through higher education and our free-enterprise system, there is no limit to the things they may achieve.”
The scholarships go toward college tuition, fees, books, on-campus room and board and other education-related expenses.
The Horatio Alger Association’s scholarship programs are funded by its members, friends of the organization and other foundations. Since 1987, the association has provided $1.375 million in scholarships to high school seniors from Utah.
