ST. GEORGE -- A St. George woman has been arrested on suspicion of causing a fatal accident while she was distracted by a cellphone.
Carla Brennan was booked Friday into jail on a charge of automobile homicide involving a handheld wireless communication device while driving.
Prosecutors told The Spectrum of St. George that it's the first time someone has been arrested in Washington County on the second-degree felony charge.
The 50-year-old Brennan is accused of rear-ending a car on March 4 and causing that vehicle to go off the roadway and strike a couple walking on the sidewalk.
Fifty-six-year-old David Henson was flown to a hospital in critical condition but later died. His 56-year-old wife, Leslee Hanson, suffered serious injuries but survived.
Brennan was released from jail after posting $10,000 bail.
