OGDEN -- As vice president of business development of fabrication and machining company, Petersen Inc., attending red-carpet events isn't typically in Rob Despain's job description.
Yet he and other representatives from Petersen Inc., located at 1527 N. 2000 West in Ogden, found themselves donning tuxedos and formal gowns Thursday night in San Diego, when the company was honored with Boeing's Supplier of the Year award. Despain said Petersen Inc. was one of only 16 of Boeing's 17,500 suppliers to earn the award.
"It's been a relentless pursuit of success for us," Despain said. "We were elated when we found out about the award. It's not something you ever expect when you're dealing with the global leader in air traffic."
Among other duties, Petersen Inc. supplies Boeing with 300,000 parts for out-of-production aircraft a year, Despain said, and the company's on-time delivery success rate was 100 percent.
Despain said the company did it all while cutting costs for Boeing.
"It keeps their fleet in the air," Despain said.
The award has earned Petersen Inc. widespread recognition, Despain said, as companies around the world have reached out and congratulated the company.
To honor its award recipients, Boeing put on a gala Thursday in San Diego, with 800-900 people attending.
Despain said a video about Petersen Inc. was played for the crowd, and the representatives from the company were brought on-stage to receive the award.
Petersen Inc. has 463 employees, Despain said, and despite only a few of them attending the ceremony, excitement spread through the company when the award was first announced.
"It was neat," he said. "What was cool was there was a few of us (at the ceremony), but we were representing the whole team. I felt bad our whole team wasn't a part of it."
