LAYTON -- A maintenance worker found what he thought was a pipe bomb on the roof of Mountain View Elementary School Monday morning, a Davis School District official says.
The worker removed the device from the roof, district spokesperson Christopher Williams said, and called police.
All the students from the school have walked to a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-days Saints meeting house at the corner of 2400 East and 3225 North, about a half-mile away from the school.
Parents are being asked to pick up their children at the church. Some school buses are also taking some children home from the church. Parents are being alerted by email and phone to pick up their children, say Davis County School district officials.
The Davis County sheriff's bomb squad detonated a device early in the afternoon. The sheriff's office and the Layton Police Department are currently searching the surrounding area for information and any other possible explosive devices.
