The article linking conservatism and suicides came to the most absurd conclusion I have ever seen (April 21, "Stats in Utah linked to suicide"). Yes, Utah ranks high in suicides and antidepressant medications. It has nothing to do with political ideology, but with the "impossible gospel" of Mormonism. LDS theology teaches that "ye must be perfect, even as your Heavenly Father is perfect."
The lifetime demands of trying to become perfect are leading some Mormons to become suicidal when they can't attain the standards expected of their faith. That is because mankind is born with a sinning nature, which can't be erased through one's own efforts.
