PROVO -- The Utah County Sheriff's office is investigating the death of an Orem woman who was found in her wrecked car in Diamond Fork Canyon.
Sheriff's spokesman Spencer Cannon told The (Provo) Daily Herald they received a call about 11 a.m. Wednesday about the car in the river down a 10-foot embankment along a narrow and windy stretch of the road.
The victim has been identified as 33-year-old Heidi Bascom.
Cannon says video from the Bureau of Reclamation shows Bascom entered the canyon around 6 p.m. Tuesday. He says it appears she failed to negotiate a left-hand turn.
Deputies found open alcohol containers in the vehicle and believe alcohol likely played a role in the crash, but Cannon says toxicology reports won't be completed for a couple of weeks.
