SUNSET -- The city council unanimously agreed, at its April 16 meeting, to adopt a $9 increase to its daily per diem meal allowance when city officials attend out-of-area conferences or meetings.
City officials will now receive $7 for breakfast, $11 for lunch and $23 for dinner.
The old policy paid them $7 for breakfast, $10 for lunch and $15 for dinner.
City Councilman Ryan Furniss said the council adopted the General Services Administration standard in setting its new meal per diem rate.
But the city will not follow GSA standards when it comes to its recommended $77 per night hotel room rate, he said.
City officials instead will pay the hotel accommodation rate assessed by the sponsoring host of the conference.
That hotel accommodation rate for the April 10-12 Utah League of Cities and Towns conference in St. George was $112 a night.
In addition, city officials also receive the Internal Revenue Service mileage reimbursement rate of 56.5 cents per vehicle-mile traveled.
