SALT LAKE CITY -- With nearly half a million babies in this country, one in nine in Utah still being born too soon each year, Associated Retail Operations (Macey's, Fresh Market, Dan's, Lin's and Dick's Markets) has the goal of fundraising $44,000 for the March of Dimes.
The cutout campaign coincides with March for Babies, the March of Dimes signature event that occurs in four locations around Utah in April and May.
Team members will sell the cutouts at checkout registers through May 13 and ask customers to sign their name or the name of a baby they love, creating an impressive in-store display.
The dollars raised will assist local moms in having full-term pregnancies and prevent problems that threaten the lives of babies.
"We're excited to start fundraising," said Susan Coleman, Sandy Macey's head bookkeeper.
"Everyone wants to contribute and make a difference with this great cause. As a mother and grandmother, you know how vital it is that babies arrive on time and healthy. Sometimes, that is not the case, which is why we are big supporters of March of Dimes and what they do for Utah families."
Over the past five years, Associated Retail Operations has led successful fundraising events for the March of Dimes, contributing more than $200,000 in proceeds by selling the paper cutouts.
"We're so excited to have Macey's, Dan's, Lin's, Fresh Market and Dick's Markets to help with our March for Babies events," said Aaron Leek, vice president of the Mountain West Region for Security Service Federal Credit Union and chairman of the 2013 Utah March for Babies.
"Their passion for the cause and commitment to helping our babies will be a huge driving factor in the success of our event. We are grateful for the time and support they're able to lend us."
