WOODS CROSS -- Blown fuses at a Rocky Mountain Power substation Friday caused power outages at four nearby oil refineries.
Rocky Mountain Power spokesman Dave Eskelsen said the outage, which happened just after 6 p.m., affected Holly, Flying J, Chevron and Silver Eagle refineries. Power was restored two hours later.
According to several reports, black smoke could be seen coming out of some of the refineries, which were forced to burn product as a safety mechanism.
Two other Rocky Mountain Power substations also experienced glitches, Eskelsen said, and some homes may have had blinking or dimming lights.
