Box Elder County continues to spend

Apr 29 2013 - 3:24pm

Editor,

At the last Box Elder County commission meeting I opposed the $125,000 grants that were awarded by the Tourism Tax Advisory Board. This tax on restaurants and hotels is just another way for the government to take our money and then give it to cities and groups that did nothing to earn it. Redistribution of wealth is a Karl Marx, communist principle. Commissioner Tingey asked me where all the other citizens were that opposed this program and I told him that I didn't know, maybe because the commission meeting is held at 5:00 p.m.

Tooele County needs to be commended for cutting back on government workers and not having a county fair because of the reduction in revenues. Box Elder County continues to spend by putting almost $1.5 million into our county fair, which again, is not the proper role of government.

My family has been involved in the county fair for many years and I have never thought about whether the government should be doing this until I started learning about our Constitution and the proper role of government.

The solution to our problems is more citizens learning about our Constitution and avoiding as many government-run programs as possible.  Choose instead to go to privately-run programs. Restore and protect the fruits of people's labor, their money.
