LaDon Swaner celebrated her 80th birthday on Saturday, April 27, at a ladies luncheon held in her honor at the Greenery in Rainbow Gardens, followed by a family open house at her home in Ogden.
She was born on April 28, 1933, the oldest child of Stuart and Retta Hansen Swenson. She attended schools in Ogden, graduating from Ogden High School in 1951.
She met her eternal companion, Gene Swaner, at a stake conference in Ogden. They were married on Nov. 7, 1951, in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Salt Lake Temple. An active member of the LDS Church, she enjoys genealogy.
She retired from the manufacturing/mechanical engineering department at Weber State College in 1995. While at Weber State, she received the Crystal Crest Friend of the Student Award in 1989. She enjoys WSU basketball games, and she and her husband have had season tickets for more than 36 years.
An avid crocheter, she has several projects going from dish cloths to afghans. She still cans jams, jellies and pickles. Her family says that they love her brownies. She enjoyed traveling with friends and family. Her favorite place was Branson, Mo.
Their summers are spent in Fremont, where the family has a vacation home.
Her children are Steven and Joyce Swaner, Karla and Devin Nelson, Susan Swift, Don Swaner, and Scott and Mandy Swaner. She has 20 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, with one on the way, and two great-great-grandchildren.
