SALT LAKE CITY -- A Utah man accused of making a bomb threat at the Salt Lake City Marathon has sent a letter of apology to organizers.
The Salt Lake District Attorney has charged 59-year-old George Zinn, of Salt Lake City, with making terrorist threats.
Police say Zinn sent an email to the SLC Marathon Marketing group requesting to place bombs at the marathon's finish line.
Zinn says he was joking when he made the comments.
The threat came just days after the Boston Marathon explosions that left three dead and more than 200 wounded.
Zinn sent an email to organizers saying he regrets his comment and it was "flippant and irresponsible."
Zinn is scheduled to appear in court on May 20.
