MURRAY -- Dozens of Murray residents turned out at city hall to voice their concerns about the canal break that flooded at least eight homes with water and mud over the weekend.
Scott and Connie Goodman were among those who told the city council Tuesday night they want tougher restrictions on canal companies statewide.
The Deseret News reports the canal broke on Saturday along a 20-foot-wide section, filling several rooms of the Goodman's house with 8 feet of water.
The North Jordan Irrigation Co. stopped the flow with a temporary dam and hired an engineer to investigate why the canal failed.
The company says the city never should have allowed houses to be built in the flood plain between the canal and the Jordan River.
