Adele Hughes Chandler of North Ogden will celebrate her 90th birthday on Monday, May 6. Family and friends may attend an open house in her honor hosted by her children from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, May 5, at her home.
She was born May 6, 1923, in Salt Lake City to Theophilus and Hattie Hughes. She graduated from East High School and attended the University of Utah. In September 1944 at age 21, she enlisted in the Women's Air Corps to serve her country during World War II. She served overseas in Casa Blanca, North Africa, until her discharge. In April 1946, she met Calvin S. Chandler, and they were married on Oct. 18, 1946, in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Salt Lake Temple. They made their home in North Ogden, where they raised their family of five children.
She has served in many civic responsibilities, many LDS church callings, and enjoyed being a member of several women's groups. She has enjoyed traveling with her husband, family and friends throughout the years. She has contributed much to her family's genealogy work, enjoys writing, reading and handwork. If they are winning, she also enjoys watching the Utah Jazz.
Her children and spouses are Carole Lowe, Barbara and Doug Christensen, Katie and Ralph Jaggi, Mark and Jill Chandler, and Mary and Danny Christensen. She has many grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
