OREM -- A mother has given birth to a baby boy on the side of a Utah freeway.
The husband and wife pair was rushing to the hospital at dawn on Monday when they pulled over for the emergency birth on I-15.
The father delivered the boy in the car at a northbound ramp on the outskirts of Orem.
Medics arrived after the birth and clipped the umbilical cord.
Orem Police Sgt. Craig Martinez says the Monday birth is the fourth roadside delivery he recalls in his 13 years with the department.
Martinez said, "It's not common, but it's happened before and it's likely to happen again."
An ambulance took the mother and baby to a local hospital, where they are doing OK.
