SALT LAKE CITY -- A 33-year-old Salt Lake City man has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting his wife after police and firefighters responded to a fire at a two-unit apartment.
Daniel Doe Ivins was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on Wednesday for investigation of domestic violence.
Police say he cut his wife's lip in a dispute before firefighters arrived at the burning apartment building on N. 800 West about 9 a.m. A jail report says she had a black eye and bruises from previous altercations.
Salt Lake Fire spokesman Jasen Asay told The Deseret News police arrested Ivins after a neighbor told firefighters about the assault.
Fire crews quickly extinguished the blaze they believe started in the front of the ground-level unit. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
