OGDEN -- Ogden High's boys tennis team played its final Region 11 championship, finishing a strong second on Friday afternoon on its home courts.
"We had a couple of firsts, a couple of seconds and everyone qualified for state," Ogden coach Bill Roberts said. "Well take that."
Dallin Whitehead claimed the No. 1 singles title, while Kris Hallford and Tyler Swearngin snagged the No. 1 doubles title for Ogden. Grantsville won the other three divisions to stay in first place in the final season standings.
Whitehead, a junior, topped Grantsville's Braden Sandberg, 7-6(6), 2-6, 6-3. Whitehead had lost their first meeting, but buckled down in the final set to pick up the title.
Morgan's Tanner Castro finished fifth.
At No. 2 singles, Grantsville's Tyler Colson was the champion. Morgan's TJ Hatch defeated Ogden's Kevin Chandler, 3-6, 6-3, 6-1, for third and fourth place, with Bear River's Nate Evans fifth.
At No. 3 singles, Grantsville's Devin Orgill edged Ogden's Trevor Muse, 6-1, 6-4, for the title. Morgan's Nate Johnson was fourth, with Ben Lomond's Connor Miller fifth.
At No. 1 doubles, Hallford and Swearngin battled Bear River's Augmon Jolley and Mitch Walker, winning 2-6, 6-3, 7-5. Ben Lomond's Josh Hardin and Brian Harris finished fourth, with Morgan's Ryan Lynch and Taylor Clark fifth.
At No. 2 doubles, Ben Lomond's Sterling Brandley and Christian Gutierrez lost to Grantsville's Lane Sutton and Dallin Denton, 6-3, 6-4, in the final. Morgan's Ben Holland and Bobby Cluff defeated Ogden's Nick Eccles and Riley Jones, 6-4, 6-1, for third and fourth place.
* STATE 5-A, 2-A TOURNAMENTS: The state 5-A and 2-A boys tennis tournaments will wrap up today at Salt Lake City's Liberty Park.
Action begins at 9 a.m.
Viewmont leads the 5-A tourney, with Davis fifth and Layton sixth.
