SPANISH FORK -- The Trojans and Bears will pack their bags for St. George.
Both the Morgan High and Bear River High baseball teams salvaged splits on Saturday in the first rounds of the state 3-A baseball tournament, and will advance to play next Thursday at St. George.
Morgan fell to Snow Canyon 11-1, but came back with a vengeange in an elimination game at Spanish Fork City Park, rapping six triples to beat up on Uintah 14-4.
Cameron Skinner, Cameron Jarrett and Lantzen Toomer combined to limit to Uintah to five hits in the second game. At the plate, the Trojans set a school mark for triples, three of them by Toomer, who went 4 for 4 with a walk and two steals as we..
Skinner went 3 for 4 at the plate, and earned the win on the mound. Tanner Hales, Kade Carrigan and Cameron Jarrett added triples, while Toomer and Braden Brown smacked doubles as part of Morgan's 15-hit attack.
In the first game, Snow Canyon's Brogan Secrist limited Morgan to three hits.
Hales took the loss on the mound against the defending state 3-A champions. Carrigan and Mitch Wamsley had doubles for the Trojans,
* BEAR RIVER: At Park City, the Bears had a shot at Canyon View, but fell 8-7 in their tournament opener.
Bear River left little doubt in its one-loss bracket game, smacking Juab 10-1. Hunter Porrit earned the win on the mound for the Bears.
Emery topped Parowan 15-9 to win the 2-A championship.
* bear river 3, pine view 0: At Draper, the Region 11 co-champion Bears -- only 3-4 in their last seven games -- advanced to Thursday's round of eight undefeated teams versus unbeaten Region 10 champion Juan Diego at The Fields at Little Valley in St. George.
Senior right-hander Jordan Theurer, who has signed with Southern Utah, allowed six hits with 11 strikeouts and a walk.
Theurer rested her injured right forearm during practice last week.
Erin Fox went 2-for-2 with a double and scored a run for five-time defending state 3-A champion Bear River. Sierra Detwiler was 2-for-3 with a double and a run and Carleen Hunsaker went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
The Bears (19-7 overall) scored their two other runs on a Panthers' throwing error and a wild pitch. Pine View was shut out for just the second time this year.
San Juan edged Enterprise 6-5 for the 2-A championship.
* WASATCH 1, PARK CITY 0: At Rio Tinto Stadium, the Wasps capped an unbeaten season with the win over rival Park City.
Cesar Vargas scored the only goal in the first half as Wasatch beat Park City for the third time this season and claimed its third state 3-A crown in three years.
Wasatch eliminated Region 11 champion Ogden in Friday's semifinals.
* AMERICAN LEADERSHIP 3, MANTI 1: At Rio Tinto Stadium, ALA won its first-ever state championship with the big win.
Hector Martinez scored two early goals, Titi Chichia added another score and goalkeeper Anson Gwilliam blocked a Manti PK.
Manti eliminated St. Joseph in PKs in Friday's semifinals.
