Opponents of gay rights and same-sex marriage rights often cite morality as the basis for their positions. But what is morality? What is moral?
It was once considered moral for a man to own slaves. It was once considered moral for a man to essentially own his wife, as women had few individual rights of self-determination, such as the right to vote or own property. I've even heard rumors that it was once moral, in some parts of the country, for a man to "own" as many wives as he could support.
It was once considered moral to invade another land, slaughter the men, rape the women, enslave the children and plunder the resources. Oh wait----we still do that.
Morality -- the difference between right and wrong, good and evil, is a constantly shifting paradigm. Slavery, spousal servitude, genocide were once considered to be "right" and "good." How do we know? The Bible tells us so.
Look it up.
And don't you dare tell me that my love for my partner of 20 years----supportive, faithful and true----is not moral, is not right, is not good.
