The Utah National Guard created a religiously hostile work environment by broadcasting radio ads telling Mormons that they can leave for two years for a mission and suffer no consequences upon return.
By failing to grant two years off to any member for any reason, the leadership creates the reality that Utah National Guard is a "good old boy" network biased in favor of Mormons in all other matters too. It is bad policy. Members lose their skills and/or can abuse the system to avoid deployments.
Even if kept, they are obligated to tell the public it applies to everyone, not just Mormons, and it can be used for anything, The Guard must target all audiences equally.
This policy also violates the new Pentagon policy against evangelism.
The harm is so obvious that the broadcast of these ads needs to be a career-ending event for the responsible officer.
