PLEASANT VIEW -- The Bees were right on target on Wednesday in the state 4-A girls golf championship, leading a triple title haul for local schools.
While Box Elder reversed its position with Bonneville atop the 4-A standings following action at The Barn Golf Club, the St. Joseph girls and Layton Christian boys also won championships in the 1-A tournaments at Rose Park Golf Course.
Box Elder started Wednesday's 18-hole tournament as a favorite and did not disappoint, with Bees senior McCall Uyematsu leading a trio of top 10 finishes. Uyematsu won the tournament by two points, shooting a 79, good enough for 83 points on the modified stableford system.
Box Elder's Mallary Marx was fourth with 78 points, with the Bees' Bailey Craynor tied for eighth along with Bonneville's Jamie Garner and Bountiful's Carly Anderson, all with 76 points.
Box Elder's Andra Walker and Ashley Pyle added 69s with Kenra Craynor scoring a 59. Box Elder tallied 306 points, ahead of Bonneville (294), Skyline (293) and Bountiful (287). Logan finished seventh, while Clearfield was 12th overall.
Bonneville's Tallie Alder (75), Quincy Chadwick (73) and Jessica Hancock (70) all finished in the top 25, but the defending 4-A champs couldn't catch the Bees.
Logan's Kathleen Miller was fifth overall at 77.
Haley Case, playing as an individual, tallied 69 points, a point ahead of Clearfield's top finisher, Taylor Rentmeister, who tallied 68. Woods Cross was led by Lexi Lewis at 66.
The state 3-A girls championship will be held today starting at 9 a.m. at Schneiter's Riverside Golf Course in Riverdale.
1-A girls tournament
* JAYHAWKS BACK ON TOP: At Salt Lake City's Rose Park Golf Course, the St. Joseph girls golf team returned to first place in the 1-A ranks with a 29-point victory over the field in the state championship tourmament Wednesday.
With individual medalist Greta Schneider leading the way, the Jayhawks tallied 242 points, followed by Dugway with 213 and Layton Christian with 212. Rich finished sixth overall.
Schneider shot 88 at Rose Park, eight shots better than LCA's Marissa Long to score 76 stableford points. Teammate Mady White was third at 66, with Kristen Carney sixth at 61. Hunter Reed (29) and Clair Bruce (18) rounded out the St. Joseph scoring.
The Eagles also got a top-10 finish from Kayla Kingsley (65), who tied for fourth overall. Teammate Gianna Murrillo was at 51.
1-A boys tournament
* LCA EAGLES REPEAT: At Salt Lake City's Rose Park Golf Course, St. Joseph's Jared Kenny played like he is capable of, but so did the Layton Christian Eagles, who repeated as state 1-A champions over the two-day tourney.
The Eagles's Jaece Stokes and Austin Geddings boosted LCA to a 622 strokes score for 36 holes 41 shots ahead or Greent River. Rich was third at 669, with St. Joseph fourth at 671.
But Kenney -- who had a subpar Region 17 tournament a couple of weeks ago -- jumped out to a lead with a 71 on Tuesday's opening round and finished with a 75 on Thursday for a three-shot win over Stokes (146 to 149), the defending 1-A champion. Geddings was third at 153 along with Rich's McKay Jarman.
LCA also got top-10 efforts from Nick Norton (158, 7th) and Jitpanu Issaravanich (162, 9th). Toy Chitkittiwong (223) and Nathan Olsen (256) rounded out the Eagles scoring.
The Jayhawks' David Donlevy (171), Franz Rugierro (176), Nick Gruet (178) and Jordan Jones (185) also finished in the top 25.
