SALT LAKE CITY -- Timpview won't give up the state 4-A boys tennis team title without a fight.
The Thunderbirds held a one-point edge on Bonneville and Woods Cross following Friday's action at Salt Lake City's Liberty Park.
The Region 5 champion Lakers are in great position heading into the semifinals, with singles players Parker Jones and Jay Walter as well as the doubles duo of Tyler Heaton and Bobby Crofts all alive after two wins.
Freshman Keith McMullin won his first match but lost in the quarterfinals for the Lakers, as the did the No. 2 doubles duo of Tanner Heaton and Alex Hall.
All three Lakers will meet Timpview players in today's semifinals.
* NORTH TEAMS ELIMINATED: At St. George, the South was pretty rude to the Region 11 teams, wiping them out of the tournament before the semifinal round on Friday in 3-A boys tournament action at Green Valley Tennis Center.
Ogden High's Trevor Muse and a couple of Grantsville entries were the only players from Region 11 to post opening-round wins.
Muse beat Chase Larsen of Union, 7-6 (7-1), 7-5, in the first round at No. 3 singles, but then fell to Justin Erickson of North Sanpete, 6-3, 7-5.
Desert Hills and Juan Diego are tied for the lead going into today's final rounds of play.
