Dale Vern Coy will celebrate his 80th birthday. Family and friends may attend an open house in his honor from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. today, May 19, at his home, 3094 W. 1150 North, West Point.
Born May 19, 1933, to Vern Allen Coy and Vonda May Thurston Coy in Ogden, he attended Weber County schools, graduating from Weber High School in 1951. He attended Brigham Young University, graduating with a bachelor's degree in accounting.
He served a two-year LDS mission. Later he enlisted in the Army, where he met and married Joanne Elizabeth Silver of Cambridge, Mass. They have been married for 55 years. They have five children: David Coy, Shirley Coy, Brian and Robin Coy, John Coy, and James and April Coy. They have 11 grandchildren.
After college, he was employed as an accountant by California Packing Corp. Later he worked as an auditor for the Internal Revenue Service. He retired from the IRS with almost 30 years of service. He has prepared tax returns as a certified public accountant out of his home since retirement.
Church activity has been central in his life. As a youth, he was involved in Scouting and the Civil Air Patrol. Later he took flight training to obtain a pilot license with an instrument rating. Another interest is amateur radio. His current radio call is AC7EB.
