LOGAN -- Cache County prosecutors have at least temporarily dropped rape and kidnapping charges against a 19-year-old Smithfield man accused of assaulting a teenage girl at a party last summer.
County Attorney James Swink says his office has plenty of evidence to support the charges that were filed in November against Ethan Crossley. But he told The (Logan) Herald Journal that unspecified circumstances now warrant the dismissal of the case. He says prosecutors intend to continue to work to build the case and charges could be refiled.
Crossley was scheduled to appear at a preliminary hearing Friday as the primary suspect in the brutal attack on the 17-year-old girl at a party where alcohol was served. He continues to be held in the county jail without bail on several unrelated charges.
