OGDEN -- Two large and reasonably priced furniture providers will close their doors as Knight's Mattress & Furniture and Crown Elite Bedrooms enter their final weeks in business. Both stores are scheduled to close Tuesday.
Knight's closing, however, signifies the opportunity for its owners to continue their business in different ways.
"We're going to downscale. We are moving the store to Woods Cross, because we think smaller will be better. A different focus, maybe more on mattresses, will help in the long run. I'm not ready to retire just yet, but I think running a smaller business will be better," Greg Knight, a co-owner of Knight's, said.
Knight's son, Shane, is the other owner, and after the current store closes he plans to make changes to the layout of the Ogden building, which is on Riverdale Road. It currently houses and displays the furniture in one large room, but he plans to make the store into smaller rooms, with different settings and choices given in a new setup.
Manufactured and re-sold items are what Knight's has offered its customers in the seven-year-old location's inventory, and the location's closing has nothing to do with not understanding or serving its customers' tastes.
"The Ogden location works great," Knight said. "We have appreciated the customers that have been there, and this decision was not about having too few customers to keep the store open. We dealt with more everyday items, more mid-price things, and that's been a successful market for us. We are not going out of business."
No opening dates have been set either for the Woods Cross location or the redesigned Ogden Knight's, but the store still has two locations open in Orem and Lehi. The owners of Crown Elite Bedrooms declined to comment on the closing of their location.
