County names art contest winner

FARMINGTON -- American Fork elementary student Brooklyn Harris has captured best of show in the Great Salt Lake Bird Festival student art contest.

Brooklyn is a student at Legacy Elementary in American Fork, said Neka Roundy, festival organizer.

The 15th annual festival art contest was sponsored in part by the Davis County Commissioner's Golf Tournament and Country Inn and Suites.

The festival received a total of 356 entries, which were submitted by school classes, organizations and individuals, Roundy said.

The featured bird for the contest was the long-billed Dowitcher, to be the featured bird at the 2014 Great Salt Lake Bird Festival set for May 15-20. Brooklyn's entry will be spotlighted in the 2014 festival programming.

Entries for the 2014 festival student art contest are due May 2. The 2015 spotlight bird is the broad-tailed hummingbird. For information, visit www.GreatSaltLakeBirdFest.com.
