PROVO -- Utah Sen. Orrin Hatch is asking his constituents to help blow the whistle on the Internal Revenue Service.
The Utah Republican released a letter and video on Thursday asking state residents to contact him with information about any IRS wrongdoing tied to reports the tax collectors targeted tea party and other conservative GOP-leaning groups.
Hatch is especially interested in any Utahns who might have tried to acquire a 501(c)4 tax exempt status but were held up by the IRS.
Utah Tea Party leader David Kirkham says his group didn't experience any problems because an official Utah Tea Party group was never formed. He told The (Provo) Daily Herald that was partly because he advised against the move because of his past experiences being audited by the IRS.
