SALT LAKE CITY -- A St. George doctor is under federal investigation for allegedly orchestrating street sales of narcotic painkillers.
KSL reports that federal agents are asking a judge to approve a search warrant in an investigation of Dr. Simmon Lee Wilcox.
An affidavit filed by the Drug Enforcement Administration says Wilcox wrote drug prescriptions for fictitious patients going back several years. It quotes one informant saying accomplices sold as many as 400 pills a month.
The DEA is trying to obtain the doctor's patient charts, and it wants to search two storage units in St. George. The affidavit says Wilcox closed his St. George office when a lease expired in February.
No charges have been filed against Wilcox. It wasn't clear if he had a lawyer. Nobody answered a phone listed under his name in Virgin.
