ROY -- A 25-year-old man was killed Saturday morning when a Union Pacific train hit him.
Roy Police Sgt. Shane Hubbard said the man, identified as Thatcher Overton, was hit around 1:30 a.m. while he was standing on the tracks, near 6000 S. 2400 West.
Overton had ear bud headphones in his ears, Hubbard said, so it's unclear if he was aware of the oncoming train, which didn't have enough time to stop.
Investigators Saturday evening were still trying to determine the circumstances that led to the man being on the railroad tracks.
Union Pacific did not return a call seeking comment.
