James and Dorothy Spencer will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on June 10. A family dinner will be held in their honor later this summer.
They were married in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Salt Lake LDS Temple on June 10, 1953.
They grew up in Bear Lake County, Idaho, and attended Brigham Young University, where he graduated and received a commission in the U.S. Air Force. He served for 22 years as a navigator and aircraft maintenance officer. He had assignments to 10 air bases, including two unaccompanied remote tours in Saudi Arabia and Thailand.
They have lived in their home in South Ogden for 41 years, where they have been active in the community. He served on the planning and zoning commission, and she worked in the recreation department. Both have had many callings in the LDS Church in different branches and wards where they have lived. They also served as ordinance workers in the Ogden Temple for nine years.
He enjoyed wood working and helping to rebuild the cabin in Scare Canyon. Both enjoyed traveling and spending time with their children and grandchildren.
Their children and their spouses are James and Vickie DeCaires, Lloyd and Julie Thomson, Paul and Sharon Pearlman, Thomas and Jamie Bayles, Michael and Martissa Spencer, and Derrick and Laura Van Beuge. They have 20 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
