June Carter Steele Orrock of South Ogden will celebrate her 90th birthday. Family and friends may attend an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. on June 15 at the LDS church building on 1150 E. 2600 North in North Ogden. No gifts.
The 12th of 13 children, she was born June 10, 1923, in Porterville. She graduated from Weber High School in 1941.
She married Billy H. Steele on Dec. 24, 1942, in Seattle. Their vows were later solemnized in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Salt Lake Temple. After four years in the service during World War II, they returned to Ogden. Her two children and spouses are Scott and Kaylene Steele, and Renae and Steve Woldberg. She has six grandchildren (one deceased), three step-grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren with more on the way.
She worked for Dr. Bart Wolthius for 22 years as office manager. After she retired, she volunteered at McKay-Dee Hospital. She enjoys family gatherings, holiday dinners, birthday parties and new baby blessings. Her hobbies were stitchery, doll making and dress making. She enjoyed golfing and still plays. She won several tournaments and shot a hole in one.
A lifelong member of the LDS Church, she has served as a Primary teacher, stake secretary of Junior Sunday School and as a visiting teacher.
Bill died after 58 years of marriage. She later married Phil Orrock, her high school prom date. His family includes three children and their spouses: Craig and Valerie Orrock, Ellen and Jay Eckersley, and Debra Gardner. He also has 16 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
