CLINTON -- Police are investigating why a 31-year-old man slit the throat of another man early Monday morning.

William Thomas Dominguez was booked in the Davis County Jail on one count of attempted murder, a first-degree felony. He is being held on no bail.

Clinton Police Lt. Dave Valentine said police were called to a home at about 720 W. 2400 North by home occupants.

They said Dominguez was coming to the house and was upset.

Dominguez wanted to talk to his brother, who lived in the house, but another man came out to talk to him instead. Dominguez grabbed the man and slashed the man's throat, cutting it left to right about 8 inches long and 1/8 of inch deep, Valentine said.

The injured man refused to go to the hospital, Valentine said.

"It didn't hit any arteries or any vital organs, and the man said he could take care of it himself," Valentine said.

Valentine said he does not know what the dispute was between Dominguez and his brother. Dominguez had not left the scene and was in the driveway when police arrived.

Valentine said police had not been to the house before, but Dominguez has been arrested before on unrelated charges.

The Davis County Attorney's Office is reviewing the case before filing formal charges in 2nd District Court.
