SALT LAKE CITY — Utah Governor Gary Herbert says he would fire attorney general John Swallow if he worked for him.
Herbert told reporters Tuesday that he is increasingly alarmed about reports of ethical violations by Swallow.
Herbert stopped short of calling on Swallow to resign. The Republican governor says that is a decision Swallow must make on his own.
Swallow is the subject of a federal investigation after an indicted Utah businessman accused him of arranging to derail a Federal Trade Commission probe by bribing Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada.
Swallow, a Republican, has denied any wrongdoing. He took office in January.
Herbert applauded the Utah House for moving slowly on its decision about whether to start impeachment proceedings against Swallow.
