SALT LAKE CITY -- A record number of Utah prison inmates earned high school diplomas during a graduation ceremony.
The Salt Lake Tribune reports that 360 prisoners received diplomas during Wednesday's ceremony at the Utah State Prison in Draper.
An additional 140 prison inmates from the Central Utah Correctional Facility in Gunnison will be graduating later this month.
The Utah Department of Corrections works with local school districts in Draper and Gunnison to help prisoners who enroll in high school equivalency programs.
Utah state officials say inmates who participate in educational programs are 20 percent less likely to commit crimes again.
