SALT LAKE CITY -- Time seems to be standing still at Salt Lake City Hall.

Lightning recently struck the clock tower - freezing it at 4:58 p.m.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports that city spokesman Art Raymond said the clock took a direct hit during a thunderstorm a few weeks ago. He says the clock's computer system was fried.

Raymond says the bells on the clock tire are mechanical but the clock is run by a computer.

City officials plan to fix the large clock but there is no timetable.

The clock tower is in downtown Salt Lake City.
