TOOELE -- The Tooele County Attorney's Office has filed charges against a Provo man in the death of a 7-year-old girl who was killed while riding an all-terrain vehicle.
Deputies with the Tooele County Sheriff's Office say that on May 12, 32-year-old Chad Allen Tharp was riding on an ATV in Middle Canyon with 7-year-old Miranda Anderson in front.
Toole County spokesman Wade Matthews told the Salt Lake Tribune in May that a tree branch struck Miranda in the throat and tore an artery.
She was unresponsive when paramedics arrived and pronounced dead at a hospital soon after.
Deputies in court records allege that Tharp was under the influence of alcohol at the time and was operating the ATV negligently.
Tharp was charged last week with reckless endangerment and automobile homicide.
