Evans Eldred Royle, son of Eldred Moroni Royle and Lillian Emelia Bauer, was born June 3, 1928, in Eureka, Utah. After 85 years of good health, a fast-acting cancer caused his death on June 18, 2013.
World War II had just ended and at the age of 17, he enlisted in the Marines. Before and after this time he attended the University of Utah and then served an LDS mission to Great Britain.
He married Helen Decker on March 19, 1951, in the Salt Lake Temple. They were blessed with 5 children: Stephen, Susan (Jim) Winterton, David (Marilee), Nancy Royle, and Patricia (Charlie) Nielson. He is survived by 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
After Helen’s death in 1994, he added the Elizabeth Thomas clan to his own and they enjoyed ten years together. Children: Kenneth (LeAnn), Sheralyn (Boyd), Valene (Steve) and Kevin (Daphne).
He worked in the family TV, appliance and phonograph record business with stores in Provo, Salt Lake, and Boise, Idaho, for more than 25 years. He later worked for ZCMI and managed a Castleton’s clothing store.
Dad had many great qualities. A friend to all, those who knew him loved him and enjoyed his quick wit and good nature. He was humble, loving, wise, accepting and kind. He enjoyed crossword puzzles and used his skills as a wordsmith to enliven conversations and everyday life. He was an avid reader, enjoyed music, and kept current on world events. His greatest joy was seeing the success and happiness of his posterity.
Active in the LDS Church, he taught Gospel Doctrine classes for many years and was bishop of the Highland Park Ward.
