WEST VALLEY CITY — West Valley City officials say former Mayor Brent F. Anderson has died at 80.

City spokesman Aaron Crim issued a statement Wednesday announcing that Anderson died Tuesday of natural causes.

Anderson was the fourth mayor of Utah’s second largest city, serving from 1987 to 1994. He was originally appointed to the post to replace Mayor Michael Embley, who had resigned.

Anderson then ran for and won election to two more terms as mayor.

He also served as a city councilman from 1982 to 1987.

Mayor Mike Winder says in a statement that the West Valley City Hall and first golf course were constructed under Anderson’s direction, and the “community was greatly improved under his leadership.”
