WASHINGTON TERRACE -- A city council member says Washington Terrace is paying too much for law enforcement services provided by the Weber County Sheriff's Office.
Councilman Blair Brown questioned the $800,000 annual contract renewal at a meeting this week, but in the end, the council voted for it. Brown voted no.
"There has never been a question about the quality of service, only the cost," said Councilman Val Shupe.
After the meeting, Brown said, "It's Washington Terrace. We don't have any bars, no problems. We're a small community and need to spend prudently. I'm sticking up for the average citizen. I just want to make sure we're getting value for money."
Brown said the city doesn't need all eight deputies assigned to it by the sheriff's office, "but Sheriff Terry Thompson says he can't put his people in danger and needs them all."
