DES MOINES, Iowa -- Weber State senior Amber Henry has advanced to the finals of the 3,000 meter steeplechase at the 2013 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Henry will compete Saturday for a chance to represent the United States at the World Championships.
Henry finished second in her heat and fourth overall in the event Thursday at Drake Stadium in Des Moines. She posted a time of 9:58.20 to earn a qualifying spot for Saturday's finals. She was the top collegiate finisher in the race, which includes the top collegiate and professional athletes in the nation. The women's steeplechase finals will be held Saturday at 3:20 p.m. MDT and will be televised on NBC Sports Network.
The top three finishers will represent Team USA at the IAAF World Championships in August in Moscow, Russia.
Ogden native Luke Puskedra and BYU's Jared Ward ran late Thurday in the men's 10,000 meters final. Galen Rupp won the race in 28:47.32. Puskedra, who prepped at Judge Memorial, finished ninth in 29:27.28, while Ward, a former Davis High standout, was 13th in 29:40.92.
