LAYTON -- All utility customers, including churches and schools, will pay a street-lighting fee as part of a new billing process finalized recently by the city council.
City leaders voted to amend the consolidated fee schedule at a recent meeting and to extend the street-lighting fee, first approved in May, to include a $2 per month single-family charge, a $1 per month charge for multifamily units and a $2 commercial fee that applies to hotels, motels, churches and schools as well as businesses.
The new fee is part of an effort by the city to purchase the street-lighting system within city boundaries from Rocky Mountain Power. Ownership of the lighting system is expected to save the city money over time.
The street-lighting fee is a major component of the city's 2013-2014 fiscal year budget, which was finalized at the council's final meeting in Jun
