OGDEN — A huge cache of evidence released this week by prosecutors includes video of police interviews of Matthew David Stewart the day after his shootout with police serving a pot warrant at his home.
Stewart was wounded along with six officers, one fatally. He is at times not clearly heard on the tape, but a summary of his interview says he thought he was facing machine gun fire because of the volume of shots fired at him.
On Tuesday the Weber County Attorney’s Office released 32 discs, per a Standard-Examiner GRAMA request, which contain an estimated 7,000 photos, plus audio and video, from the investigation of the Jan. 4, 2012 shootout at Stewart's home at 3268 Jackson Ave. Stewart apparently committed suicide in his jail cell May 24, which is still under investigation. His trial had been set for next spring.
The GRAMA request also includes roughly 1,650 pages of documents from the investigation by the county attorney’s homicide investigation task force.
