A pair of former Top of Utah prep athletes recently wrapped up their college careers as USCAA Academic All-Americans at Southern Virginia University.
McKenzy Mackay and Ed Greenhalgh are among six SVA Knights who also earned Academic All-State honors in Virginia.
Mackay, a former Davis High standout, Mackay led the Knights on the softball diamond this year in wins (7) ERA (4.28) and strikeouts (100) while adding to two home runs and 12 RBIs at the plate. The three-time starting pitcher, who was named to the Capital One Academic All-District First Team, also ranks first in the program's history for career strikeouts (295), complete games (39), innings pitched (317.2) and games started (52).
Greenhalgh, a left-handed pitcher out of Roy High, was named to the USCAA Honorable Mention All-America squad after leading the Knights baseball pitching staff in wins (4) and ranking second in strikeouts (30), innings pitched (42.0) and opponents' batting average (.264). The three-time USCAA All-Academic selection ranks second in school history in career strikeouts (79).
Park City senior Ben Saarel was named the Gatorade Utah boys track and field athlete of the year.
Saarel, who has commited to Colorado next season, was nearly unbeatable in Utah races, and won the adidas Dream Mile in New York in 4 minutes, 2.72 seconds.
Sky View senior Brenna Porter earned the Gatorade girls honor. She won the 100-meter hurdles (14.51) and 300-meter hurdles (42.02) at the state 4-A championships. She has commited to run at BYU.
Clearfield High School is taking applications for the head wrestling and girls tennis coach positions. Teaching positions are possible available in connection with the openings.

Just-graduate Clearfield High senior Jocelyn Jones has signed to play women's basketball at Central Wyoming College.
Central Wyoming College is based in Riverton, Wyo. The school's women's basketball team was named the academic team of the year by the National Junior College Athletic Association with a team GPA of 3.52.
